Common questions

How much does a resin driveway cost in Bromley?

It depends on the size of the area, the state of the existing base, drainage, edging, the aggregate you choose and access. Our cost guide explains each factor. We quote after a free survey.

Do I need planning permission for a resin driveway?

Government guidance on front gardens says you do not need planning permission for a new or replacement driveway of any size if it uses permeable (porous) surfacing, or if rainwater is directed to a lawn or border to drain naturally. Covering more than 5 square metres of front garden with an impermeable surface that drains onto the road does need planning permission. Rules differ for listed buildings, conservation areas and flats, so check with Bromley Council if unsure.

Is a resin driveway permeable?

Resin bound surfacing only lets water through if the layer underneath does too. Laid over sound tarmac or concrete, the water still has to go somewhere, so we plan the falls and drainage at survey. On a permeable base, water drains through the whole build-up.

Do I need a dropped kerb?

To drive across the pavement you need a vehicle crossover, which Bromley Council builds after approving an application. See our dropped kerbs guide.

What is the difference between resin bound and resin bonded?

Resin bound mixes the stone and resin together before laying, giving a smooth, porous surface. Resin bonded scatters stone onto a resin layer, giving a rougher finish that is not permeable. More in our comparison guide.

Can you lay resin over my existing driveway?

Often, if the existing tarmac or concrete is sound and well drained. We check this at the survey and tell you if a new base is needed.

How long does a resin driveway take to install?

Most domestic driveways take a short number of days, depending on size and groundwork. We confirm timings at the survey.

How do I look after a resin driveway?

Sweep it regularly, wash it down now and then, and clear leaves and moss before they build up. Clean off oil or fuel spills promptly.
