Resin repairs and resin bound gravel in Bromley
Call now: 020 8138 8420We repair resin bound driveways and paths that have cracked, lost stones or worn in places, and we replace loose gravel areas with resin bound gravel so the stones stay put. We cover Bromley, Orpington, Beckenham and the rest of the borough.
Common problems we see
- Cracks following joints or cracks in the base underneath
- Loose stones where the mix was too thin or not mixed well
- Patches that have discoloured or gone dull
- Damage from skips, scaffolding or heavy vehicles
- Areas lifted by tree roots
Finding the cause first
A repair only lasts if the cause is dealt with. A crack on the surface often follows a crack in the concrete or tarmac below. Loose stones can point to a mix that was too lean or laid too thin. Roots and water can also lift and break up a base. At the survey we look at the whole area, not just the damaged patch, and explain what we think has happened.
Repair options
Small areas can often be cut out and relaid in a matching mix. Matching an older surface exactly is not always possible, because aggregates and colours vary between batches and resin surfaces change with age and weathering. Where a repair would stand out, some people prefer to resurface a whole section to a joint or edge. We tell you what to expect before you decide.
From loose gravel to resin bound gravel
Loose gravel drives are cheap to lay but stones travel onto the pavement and into the house, and they can be hard to walk or push a buggy on. Resin bound gravel keeps a stone look with a smooth, fixed surface. The existing gravel and sub-base are checked and a suitable base is laid where needed. On a front garden, permeable construction also helps with the planning rules; see resin bound driveways.
Is it bound or bonded?
Some surfaces sold as resin are actually resin bonded, where loose stones are scattered over a resin coat. These wear differently and are repaired differently. Our guide to resin bound vs resin bonded explains how to tell them apart.
Preventing damage
Many repairs can be avoided. Protect the surface with boards before a skip, scaffold or heavy machinery goes on it, keep oil and fuel spills cleaned up, and sweep away leaves and moss before they build up. If a crack appears, getting it looked at early often means a smaller repair.
Call 020 8138 8420 or send the form with a short description of the damage, and we will arrange a free survey.
Common questions
Can you repair a resin driveway someone else laid?
Often, yes. We check the existing surface and base and tell you whether a patch repair or a larger resurface is the better option.
Will a repair match my existing driveway?
We try to match the aggregate and colour, but an exact match is not always possible on an older surface. We tell you before work starts.
Why is my resin driveway losing stones?
Common causes are a mix that was too lean, a layer that was too thin, or laying in poor conditions. We look at the area to work out which applies.
